چکیده

Vibration sensors are needed in a variety of applications, such as geophysical sensing, machinery vibration and failure prediction, tracking of vehicles, underwater pressure gradient detection, microphones, and in robotic applications. Low noise electronics is critical for creating a highsensitivity vibration sensor, especially in low proof mass MEMS designs. We have designed, fabricated, and tested an ultra low noise analog VLSI circuit with feedback adaptation for use as the electronic portion of a MEMS vibration sensor. The electronics performs novel multiplicative feedback offset compensation to improve the performance of demodulator building blocks used in traditional low noise sensing electronics. The design is robust to parasitics and flicker noise. Experimental noise measurements show that the sensing electronics is capable of detecting 2.5x1iangstrom of displacement, about one order of magnitude more sensitive than electronics in state-of-the-art commercial sensors. Implementing Neural Architectures Using Analog VLSI Circuits

Biological systems routinely perform computations, such as speech recognition and the calculation of visual motion, that baffle our most powerful computers. Analog very large-scale integrated (VLSI) technology allows us not only to study and simulate biological systems, but also to emulate them in designing artificial sensory systems. A methodology for building these systems in CMOS VLSI techno...

Analog VLSI Circuits for Sensory Attentive Processing

Analog very large-scale integrated (VLSI) circuits that perform the selection process for attentive sensory processing are presented. These circuits use excitatory feedback in a winner-take-all computation to produce a hysteresis in the selection from one location to the next. They also use an inhibitory mechanism to disengage attention so that more than one stimulus is attended, even when the ...

Current Mode Subthreshold Analog MOS Components for Neuromorphic Processing TECHNICAL REPORT

Analog VLSI neuromorphic computation has become an active eld of research [Mead, 1990] [Andreou et al., 1991] [Cohen and Andreou, 1992] in the last few years. Indeed, arti cial neural systems inspired by biological neural networks are becoming an increasingly popular topic among analog VLSI designers. Biological neural systems for sensory perception and motor control are both compact and energy...

A neuromorphic VLSI device for implementing 2D selective attention systems

Selective attention is a mechanism used to sequentially select and process salient subregions of the input space, while suppressing inputs arriving from nonsalient regions. By processing small amounts of sensory information in a serial fashion, rather than attempting to process all the sensory data in parallel, this mechanism overcomes the problem of flooding limited processing capacity systems...

Spice Compatible Model for Multiple Coupled Nonuniform Transmission Lines Application in Transient Analysis of VLSI Circuits

An SPICE compatible model for multiple coupled nonuniform lossless transmission lines (TL's) is presented. The method of the modeling is based on the steplines approximation of the nonuniform TLs and quasi-TEM assumptions. Using steplines approximation the system of coupled nonuniform TLs is subdivided into arbitrary large number of coupled uniform lines (steplines) with different characteristi...
